Introduction
Dr. Junbo Ge is a world-renowned expert in cardiovascular medicine, one of the leading figures in China's interventional cardiology field, and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He serves as Chief Scientist at Parkway Shanghai Hospital, Director of the Pan-Vascular Disease Center, Director of the Department of Cardiology at Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, Director of the Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Dean of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Fudan University, Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Interventional and Radiological Therapeutics, and President of the Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians. He formerly served as Chairman of the Cardiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and President of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
Academician Ge has long been engaged in clinical and scientific research in cardiovascular diseases, dedicated to optimizing treatment strategies and technological innovation for coronary artery disease. He has achieved groundbreaking accomplishments in intravascular ultrasound technology, development of novel coronary stents, interventional strategies for complex coronary artery disease, and cellular therapy for coronary diseases. He was the first internationally to discover the "half-moon phenomenon" of myocardial bridges, significantly improving diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. He performed China's first covered stent implantation for plaque rupture. He led the development of China's first biodegradable-coated coronary stent, now widely applied in over 900 hospitals nationwide. He directed the creation of China's first fully self-developed bioresorbable coronary stent (Xinsorb stent). He pioneered the "retrograde guidewire technique" internationally, conquering challenges in complex coronary lesions and establishing it as one of the standard procedures in the field. He initiated the transradial approach for coronary angiography in China. Academician Ge has been honored with the National Innovation and Excellence Medal, Bethune Medal, Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, Fok Ying Tung Award for Outstanding Chinese Physicians, and the International Conference on Innovations in Cardiology (ICI) Lifetime Achievement Award.
